Fit Revolution

Meet Fit Revolution’s June Member of the Month, Thom Serra!

Thom shares his love for the tabata buzzer, who introduced him to Fit-Rev (where’s George?), and more.

Who has inspired you in your life and why?  I’ll generalize this one…anyone who has had to endure an unusual amount of adversity in their life, yet still has a positive outlook and makes an impact.  Pete Frates and Denna Laing immediately come to mind as examples. I find that you really don’t have to look too hard to find people that fall into this category.

Any mantra you repeat during an especially grueling workout?
No but I do try to will that wonderful triple tweet sound to come sooner in these times

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Easy…a professional Food Expo Conference attendee.  My role would be to attend such events and walk around sampling all the goodness the vendors have to offer.  After two trial runs at this I know I’m perfect for the gig.

Which superpower would you like to have?
The ability to make my car hover above traffic on 93

If you could live anywhere for one year where would you live?
Isla Verde, Puerto Rico

What were you like in high school?
Let’s see if I can capture it: glasses, braces & headgear combo, terrible acne, bad clothes, wicked skinny with a lot of awkward sprinkled in.  In my 20’s when dating someone new, my wonderful sisters would mail ‘anonymous’ pictures of me from high school to them…I really appreciated that!

Truth or dare?
Dare all day.

If you could be any age for one week, what age would you choose and why?
33. Best I can describe it was having no real adult responsibilities whatsoever except to show up at work…which I did by walking from my bed to the table in the living room of my apartment.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

The person who orders a 7 course meal at Dunkin Donuts between 6-9am during the week.  Get your coffee and move on!

If you had a warning label on you, what would it be?
Will fall asleep anywhere, anytime for no good reason.  My wife has well over 100 pictures of me in less than flattering positions that she kindly shares with my friends.

What’s one thing you will never do again?
Move.

If I had one more hour in the day, I would…
Read something

What’s one thing about you someone wouldn’t know unless they really knew you?
Weird and useless ability to remember random sequences of numbers and letters.  Some examples: all credit cards, family social security numbers, frequent flyer numbers, all of my friends license plates from high school, telephone numbers I haven’t dialed in 25+ years and even a VIN#  of an old car.

How did you first find Fit Revolution?
This George O’Connor guy that used to instruct there recruited me.

How is FitRev different than other gyms you’ve tried?
I always went to cookie cutter gyms and worked out solo…until fr, I never did any form of group fitness.  The main differences for me are the variety of the workouts and the social aspect of group fitness…I absolutely love both.  I also like that the instructors take time to get to know you and your exercise profile and coach accordingly.

What’s your favorite FitRev memory?
You mean other than having Michelle set the new standard for what I hope my eulogy will read like last week?!?!  No specific memory stands out but a pleasant unintended benefit of fr has been the social aspect of it. I’ve met a lot of new friends through the gym…both members and instructors.  There is a great culture that’s been created at fr and I find it to be a great way to get my day off on the right foot.

What’s your favorite summer-time drink?
Dark & Stormy or a Kentucky Bourbon Ale
