Curious of what Courtney did (or didn’t do!) to achieve such tremendous results? Read her Q&A’s below!

Tell us a little about yourself and what motivated you to sign-up for our Slim Down to Summer Challenge?

First off – total disclaimer:  I feel completely unqualified to be answering these questions after having just a few successful weeks!  I still have lots of work to do!  I live in NR with my husband and our two sons, ages 5 and 8.  When we first moved here, my neighbors convinced me to wake up at 4:45am and go to Fit Rev with them.  I had never been one to take classes at a gym, and thought they were completely crazy to be getting up in the middle of the night!  But now almost 4 years later, it’s become part of my routine, and I’m hooked!  I signed up for the challenge because I really felt like I needed a kick start and something that would keep me accountable.

You’re results are incredible.  Now that the challenge is over, can you fill us in on your top-secret strategy?

To be honest, I didn’t do anything new or crazy.  I just focused on eating lean proteins, lots of veggies, and healthy fats (olive oil, avocado, and even real butter!)  I cut out carbs, and forced myself to eat at regular times during the day.  I used to come home from the gym and not be hungry, so I’d go way too long before eating, which I know is horrible…  But I’ve changed that!

What (or who!) kept you motivated throughout the challenge?

Knowing that I had to get back on that scale at the gym once the 4 weeks were over really held me accountable. I signed up for the challenge with a friend and I can’t thank her enough for constantly checking in with me, making sure I was sticking to my plan.  Her encouragement kept me going!

Did you have a specific goal in terms of weight loss / body fat loss?  Did you reach that goal?

I didn’t really have a specific goal for the contest other than to really kickstart my weight loss.  I obviously have a long-term weight loss goal I’d like to reach, so I’ve been telling myself I’ve got to just keep on keepin’ on!

What are your favorite health/fitness blogs/resources/websites?

I love chatting with friends about what they are eating and how they are exercising.  It’s always good to hear new ideas!  I love the Whole30 program and follow a lot of Whole30 accounts on Instagram for new recipe ideas, etc.  A few of my favorites are Melissa Hartwig, Danielle Walker of Against All Grain, and Whole Sisters.

What is your favorite class at FitRev and how has it helped you to achieve your goals?

Not sure I can pick a favorite – you really can’t go wrong at FR!  I love Lisa’s HIIT Ride because it’s such a great mix of weights and cardio.  I also love Michelle’s Ride & Strength for the same reason.  And I can’t wait to take the outdoor boot camp with Julie once that starts up this summer

What is your favorite healthy meal or snack?  Could you share the recipe?

Right now, I’m loving that it’s grilling season!  For dinner, my husband will grill a protein and I’ll roast some veggies on the side.  Some of our favorites that we are rotating between are eggplant, zucchini, green beans, and broccoli.  I just chop one of them up, drizzle with a little olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt, and roast at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.

What’s your LEAST favorite healthy food – the one you ONLY eat because it’s good for you?

I really wish I loved beets.  I keep trying but I just can’t get past their earthy flavor.

How have you integrated your desire for healthy living into your family’s day-to-day living?

Whole30 really opened my eyes to reading labels.  I read everything now.  And I try to just make one change at a time (especially for my kids) so it’s not too overwhelming.

When it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, what are your top 3 tips?

  • Be consistent.  I try not to get out of my routine of taking a few early morning classes each week, because it’s hard for me to get back into waking up so early if I do.
  • Be prepared.  I know it’s so simple and you hear it all the time, but it’s so true.  If I don’t have a plan and the right foods in my kitchen, I’m not going to succeed.
  • This past month, I’ve really been trying to listen to my body to determine whether I should eat something, or if I’m just eating out of habit.  I’ve been trying to think about everything I’ve eaten all day before deciding what I really need.

Now that you’ve won two free months at FitRev, what will you do with that extra $198 in your wallet?

I’m not going to lie – this has definitely already crossed my mind!  😉  Summer is here, so maybe some new clothes or a bathing suit?  And probably some gym clothes too!
